It’s a baby bird-fest!

We have not one but 2 new families of baby birds at the Knitnik house! The first is a trio of baby robins, freshly hatched in the last 2 days, in our bedroom window. These robins seem early to me, as the last ones were in late July last year, though they were much bigger than these. These resemble small hunks of skin with a few hairs sticking out, and are all in a pile together, just wiggling. Kind of gross, really, but Hayley insists that they’re “cute”.

The other birds are of an unknown but teeny-tiny variety, living in a small birdhouse we hung outside for decoration. There appear to be several small birds, but the little hole and the idea that Mom is lurking nearby have prevented us from further identification.
On the knitting front, I finished up the edging on Mom’s vest today, and just need to go get buttons and figure out loops and spacing. I also have the heel and gusset done on the Crusoe socks, and am cruising (I’m so clever) on toward the toe with record speed. If only the laundry didn’t need to be done and the house didn’t need to be cleaned – I could get so much done! Also on the schedule today is a sit-down to decide how much and which yarn to take on our trip next week. I figure I have 10 hours of drive time, and 2 nearly full days during which to knit (and read, when my wrists get tired). We have very limited space (do the math – 4 people, 4 days, 1 MINI Cooper), so I’m thinking I’ll just take lots of sock yarn, no big projects, and I never ever get tired of knitting socks. OK, off to do stuff!
