One down – finally

It has taken over a week to get this first Trekking sock done.  I’ve struggled with it, ripped it out at least 4 times, ripped the heel back twice, but have finally finished it, and am quite happy with it.  There’s nothing unusual about it that should have caused all of this distress (2×2 rib, short row toe and heel), other than the fact that there was a break and a knot, and it was joined at the same color, but not at the right location.  All of the other rows of ribbing were about 7 rows per color, and this one was 11.  I thought at first I’d live with it, but perfectionist that I am, I couldn’t stand it.  I’ve even had a nice 3 day weekend to work on it, and am just now finishing it up an hour before bedtime.  I’ve truly had Sock ADD on this one, and need to cast on the second one tonight so I don’t have SSS along with the ADD.  I really don’t want to – there’s some Fixation that has been calling my name.  And there’s the sweater, though the weather has really made me want to forget about the sweater for awhile.

In non-knitting news, there are 3 more days of school.  3!  I told Hayley the other day that working at a school but not having the summer off sucks.  Yes, I said it sucks, and it does.  I hate having to pack the kids up and send them somewhere every day – I’d love to have some good lazy days, and maybe take a summer vacation, go camping, whatever.  As it it, I have one week of vacation I have to use before the end of June, so I’m taking off the week that we couldn’t schedule any camps, and I think I’m going to tackle (gasp) the playroom.  It’s really more like the junk room and storage room, there’s certainly not room to actually play out there right now.  I’m sure there’s lots that I could get rid of, but the main thing preventing it (besides the fact that IT’S NOT MY JUNK!) is that there is no A/C out there, and it gets darned hot.  I’m hoping that with the help (?!) of the girls, we can get it done in one day, then have a week to sleep in, play a bit, and just hang out.  We all need a chance to actually get bored during the summer, not have every day/minute programmed for us.  Shea has a few jobs lined up for about 1/2 of the summer, and we have Hayley programmed (I mean signed up!) for about 5 weeks of camps, but that still leaves us about 5 weeks unaccounted for.  My friend Cindy has graciously offered to let Hayley spend time with her and her daughter Karly, which we are excited about, and I’m sure Shea will enjoy plenty of sleeping in and hanging out with friends.  Oh, to be 15 again – not.  I wouldn’t be that age again for anything!  Though the sheer lack of responsibility is a joyous thought!  I could just knit and knit, maybe read a dozen or so books, and stay inside to avoid the heat – I don’t do sun, or heat, or anything like that!

OK – I must cast on this second sock before I lose all motivation to do so!  And I’m usually allergic to matching socks, but I’m determined to match this pair, so wish me luck!
