How bad could a picture be?

I’m sure everyone thought I was exaggerating when I said that the picture of Austermann Step yarn knitted up was hideous, and nothing like the real thing. Exhibit 1 – picture that is used to try (notice I said try) to sell Austermann Step yarn in color 10 (Melba – yucky name):

I think that someone at Austermann needs to reconsider their choice of photographers. Say what you will about monitor colors not being true, this may be the worst example I’ve ever seen. When I was looking at the pictures earlier, Mark actually looked over my shoulder and said, “That’s some seriously ugly sock yarn.” When I told him it was the same thing I was currently working with, he said, and I quote, “No way.” He agreed (really) that they were much prettier in person. It’s amazing – he has an opinion about sock yarn that’s not for him! OK, enough ranting about this picture. It has been driving me crazy, and I had to get enough knitting done on the actual sock to take a comparison photo. Now that it’s done, you won’t hear anymore about it until the pair is done – I promise.
Good progress on the sweater, I’m halfway up the armholes, I just didn’t realize that the top front and back were knitted flat – I’ve been enjoying the lack of purling, but am now back to it. I have been ignoring the Fixation socks in the Lace Wing pattern in favor of the aforementioned ones (notice I’m not mentioning them again – a promise is a promise). That’s all of my real knitting news, sorry if you wanted more, it’s just not going on.
Have you seen the socks that Grumperina got from her Sockapalooza pal? If you have any clue what the pattern is, please please let me know – I MUST have some. Once again, even Mark commented on the socks in the picture, and how pretty they were. If he likes the socks, maybe he won’t complain about the yarn I buy to make them (cross fingers here). Of course, I won’t buy it until after Labor Day. Nobody here has Fixation anyway. There is, however, nothing preventing me from buying needles. I’m contemplating the new ones at Knitpicks. Oh, and their server is apparently swamped by everyone going to look at these, so it may not work. Anyway, they look a lot like Addis – nickel plated, hollow brass, smooth cable and joins, but the tips are pointier (my only complaint about Addis). They have them in sizes 0-3 (all my favorites), and are only $4.99 each. They also have a new interchangeable set similar to the Boye Needlemaster, but only in sizes 4 and up, but with the same kind of tips. I may possibly really want one, but I’ll wait for the reviews to come in. Oh, and to top it off, they have double points made from the same material, in sets of 5 no less (finally!), and for something like $3.99 a set. Hmm, any major gift-getting holidays coming up? Do you think someone might choose to give me a Knitpicks gift certificate to celebrate our nation’s birthday? I think that should be a gift-giving occasion. Of course, in my perfect world, every holiday should be one. And I would want yarn. And needles. And chocolate. I may be hooked on knitting, but chocolate is a really close second.
To close out this entry, I’m going to leave you with the text on my markerboard when I came home from Knit Night last night. At the top was my favorite FlyLady quote, “Life is too short for obsessing about things over which we have no control.” I had it up there, but Shea had re-written it in some funky lettering for me. Beneath it was a note from Hayley: “Mommy – I loaded up all of the few dishes into the dishwasher. Good night. Boo Bear” I didn’t ask her to, she just did it. What a proud mom moment! And it felt so good to come home to a cleaned-up kitchen.
