There’s joy in Sockville!!!

Posted by on Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

There are just so many reasons for joy in Sockville today.  First and foremost, I get to go on the Sea Socks Cruise!  And my Mom is going with me!  This is going to be so cool!  And I can’t stop exclaiming!  Mom can knit, but doesn’t, but there will be so much to do that it won’t matter.  We’ll have a day in San Francisco, so ArtFibers here we come!), a day in Victoria BC, and a day (or perhaps 2) in Vancouver!  May is a very long way away.  But thanks to Tricia, there will be lots to do!  Yarn, classes, shopping, eating – these are a few of my favorite things (insert cheesy music here)!  And my best friend will be there, and cool Knit World people, and as my eldest would say, “Oh my goodness!”  Must stop exclaiming now.  But I must also get Raffi out of my head:  “Goin’ on a cruise, cruise, cruise, how about you, you, you?  You can come too, too, too, we’re goin’ on a cruise, cruise, cruise.”  Yes, that’s what’s been looping through the soundtrack in my head all afternoon.  Sorry to put it in your head too.

There is also joy because it was a LONG weekend.  Not so much joy at going back to work today, but the long weekend was awesome.  We had family in town (but not staying with us, which is the best kind of visiting family!), so we spent a lot of family time this weekend, which equated to good knitting time for me.  I finished my Step socks, and they are oh-so-much-prettier than all of the other Step socks I’ve seen.

Of course the pattern helped tremendously.  I think I would really have hated them in just a plain old stockinette.  I then cast on and started (and finished – in 3 days for the pair – yay me!) the 2nd pair of socks for the 3-day walker in some very cute Simple Stripes yarn in Snapdragon.  I was a bit leery of the quality of a $2.99 ball of sock yarn, but as usual, Knitpicks did not disappoint.  The yarn was a consistent thickness, the coloring was very consistent, and it was fun to work up.  I’ll be a little sad to see these go, along with the Popsicle socks, but they’re for a good cause, and if I can’t give much money, I can knit some socks!  I got lots of time in on these while we watched the first 8 (yes, you read that right) episodes of Season 1 of Lost.  All I can say is WOW!  Last night for the fireworks, I cast on yet another pair of socks.  Unfortunately, it was too hot to knit.  Yes, I said it, too hot to knit.  We were out at 6:00 p.m. to get a good spot, and it was still 93 out, with major humidity.  It was all I could do to breathe, let alone knit.  By the time it cooled off, the sun had gone down, and the fireworks were going, I was just pooped, so I only have about 2″ to show for 4 hours of knitting time.  Oh well – no kids tonight, so I’ll get caught up!  I have a lot to live up to with the 3 day pair (oh – I just got that – they were for the 3-day, and they took 3 days.  Boy I’m slow!).

The final joy in Sockville – a new vacuum cleaner.  That may not be reason to rejoice in your house, but this will make actual vacuuming in my house so much easier.  If you care which one, it’s CR’s top-rated bagless upright, and it’s half the price of the fancy-schmancy one I wanted.  It’s this one.  And I love it.  I just wonder what’s up with these manufacturers and their purple vacuum cleaners.  Since when is a vacuum a decorative item?  And since when does making it purple make it any more so?

And just in case you’re wondering about the Booger Blossom Tank, it’s currently back in yarn-ball state, and being ignored.  Again.
