Ever have one of those days

when you should have just stayed in bed?  This was my last morning to sleep in, when I wouldn’t have to get up early to run the girls to opposite ends of town, the end of my summer hours.  I enjoyed it, slept in 10 extra minutes, got ready, made my coffee, and headed out the door.  And fell down the 2 steps into the garage.  I’m pretty sure I’ve sprained my big toe, I twisted my ankle, banged up my elbow, knee, and hand, and jammed my shoulder pretty well.  I’m not truly sure how all of those parts hit the floor, but apparently they did.  And – my coffee mug (travel with a lid!) was in my hand – it flew up in the air, hit the floor, and at some point splattered all (and I do mean all) over my shirt, over a good bit of my pants, in my hair, in my face, and all over my arms.  What a way to start the day.  This necessitated a few minutes of sitting on the floor, making sure I could get up, then going back into the house (to the confusion of the dog), throwing the clothes into the wash so they wouldn’t stain, running into the garage in a bra and underwear to mop up the remaining coffee, ironing a new set of clothes, dabbing at my hair ineffectively with a towel, and drying off my face and arms.  I really could have used another shower, but was now a good 20 minutes late, and really didn’t want to do the hair and makeup all over again.  I drove painfully into work (it’s my right foot, of course), limped into my office, and got up as little as possible during the day.  I should have just stayed in bed.

The good news today is that my girls are home, after spending a week with Grandma in Minnesota (where it was 102 yesterday – yikes!).  They managed the airports and plane changes on their own, even with an exceedingly short layover.  I’m sure now that the drama and chaos that has been sorely lacking in the house for the past week will now resume!  I’m headed out tonight for Knit Night, just for a short time (I say that every week!), so that I can have an evening of fun and relaxation before real life butts in tomorrow.  OK, so it butted in today, I know.  I think it just wanted to remind me who’s in charge!
