OK, I lied.

I couldn’t resist. I had to start some new socks with the Socks That Rock Titania I got for my upcoming birthday. It was just too pretty. No pics yet, as I have started them a total of 3 times now, so I don’t have much done.
I have, however, started the promised sweater vest, and am probably 5″ into it. I would have been farther along, however there have been some snags. #1 – pre-done pattern from ArtFibers did not take into consideration that I needed some reverse stockinette around the Staghorn cables. At all. Basically it said to do the whole thing in stockinette and just do the cables, which would have blended right in. Emergency call to Tricia, who’s a few sweaters ahead of me – what to do? I could have done the whole sweater in reverse stockinette, but that is WAY more purling than I want to do in this lifetime. She suggested a few reverse stockinette stitches before and after each cable. I was going to go with that, then talked to Mark. Somehow he remembered this being a button-front sweater vest. Huh? I told him no, and showed him the schematic. He said he didn’t want a cable running right down the middle “like a stripe”. OK, let’s try again. What about a rib pattern such as on the sweater I was wearing? He thought hat would be good. I pulled the sweater off, and figured it out, and started. Except that after about 3″, I could tell that it just wasn’t going to show up in this variegated yarn. We ended up deciding on just a plain stockinette vest with a v-neck, and 2×2 rib at the bottom and the edges. So far it’s looking good. But oh, is it boring to knit!
I finished and felted the purse, all except the dots (Sue made this one for me). It’s cute, but now I’m not so sure about hot pink dots. It also has a funny ripple to it, which I’m assuming comes from the way the stitches were picked up in a lovely 2 instead of 1 manner. I have a week to figure out what to do with it – let me know if you have suggestions. I have thought about smaller dots, and even dots in the same pink instead of a hot pink, but I’m just not a 16-year old, and the 16-year old in my house is NOT into pink. Or felted purses. So her opinion really doesn’t help.
We spent our Thanksgiving with friends, and had a great time. On Friday, I refused to participate in Black Friday shopping insanity – could have something to do with my first non-retail Christmas in 9 years. And this is how I spent my Saturday. All that’s left now is to cut a bunch of little pieces, pick up more thinset, stick ‘em down, and clean and seal the whole shebang. Oh, and paint the rest of the house so it looks as nice as the front porch.
