Where does the time go?

Somehow I haven’t posted for 2 weeks. I must remedy that – I’m slack, I’ll admit it. Not that there’s anything going on around here that might prevent me from posting. Hmm, back to work after a 2 week break (that would kill anyone!), back to real life of gymnastics, Girl Scouts, Knit Night (okay, I’ll admit I like that part!), laundry, messy house, etc. Add to that my single parent status for part of the week, and life is a bit crazy. We did enjoy the man-free zone for a while last night – pj’s, junk food for dinner, eating off paper plates, having control of the remote and the computer, and no one complaining that I was hogging the phone, but come bedtime it was mighty quiet and lonely around here. And getting up this morning – ugh! The girls didn’t have school, so I had to get up in a very quiet house – even the dog wouldn’t get out of bed.
And what did my beautiful girls do while I was gone today? Perhaps the vacuuming or showers I asked for? Or putting away their laundry? No, no, and no. And a sink full of dirty dishes. What did they do all day? They worked out (to Gilad, no less – the ab workout!), and made chocolate chip cookies. Oh, to be a teenager again. How mad can a mom be to come home to non-bleeding children, a still-standing though messy house, and freshly baked cookies?

I was on a brief knitting finishing kick, which lasted through the completion of one project – the Lotus Blossom Tank. Yes, it’s finally done. And it’s beautiful, though I don’t know yet how it fits the recipient. It seemed big, so I washed it, and it grew. Really. So I washed it in warm water, and I swear, it didn’t shrink a bit. Even after I put it in the dryer. I’m not sure what I’ll do if it’s still too big – perhaps the sanitary cycle in the new washer? I then broke out my ArtFibers sweater, and finished up the body. I started the sleeves, ripped the sleeves, restarted the sleeves, re-ripped the sleeves, and put the whole thing in time out.

I’ve also finished one of the socks in my fabulous MamaE yarn, and have the second about half done. I then had a brief sock epiphany on Sunday, and had to start a new sock – this one TOE UP. You read it right. I have done 2 pair of toe-up socks ever, and hated doing them with a passion. Since the Queen introduced me to PGR’s short-row method almost a year ago, I have done most of my toes and heels with short rows, though still cuff-down. I never bothered to even look at the rest of the book to learn that you could use this same method to make toe-up socks without a fiddly cast-on or increases. Can we say duh? Once I had this epiphany, all I could think about was this sock. Even through our lovely dinner out with friends. Once we got home, I started a sock for Hayley (figuring if it wasn’t a tiny foot, at least it was a skinny foot!). It was still a bit fiddly to pick up the stitches from my provisional cast-on, and probably would have been easier with my pointy Options needles, but they were in another sock. I finished up sock #1 last night, and I think it’s a success, though the bind-off may actually be too loose, a first for me. And yes, that sock is very very long and skinny! She may be only 4’6″ or so, but those are women’s size 6AAA feet.
I’m off to Knit Night tonight. We’ll miss Kim, the newest “knitter that I’ve made”, who will be home with a sick child, but otherwise I’m sure we’ll have a great time – we always do.
